Chris Rock scheduled in Jacksonville June 25

Comedian Chris Rock will perform at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on June 25, it was announced Thursday. Tickets, $39.50 and $65 plus service charges, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through the T-U Center box office and Ticketmaster.

Rock, 43, first got national attention on the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1990. From there, he moved to HBO specials, movie roles and became one of the country's leading stand-up comedian. The TV show Everybody Hates Chris was inspired by his teen years.

Rock last performed in Jacksonville in 2004 but was often seen at the festivities during the 2005 Super Bowl.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY: Hazardous waste collection Saturday

A Community Collection Day for hazardous waste and electronics is Saturday.

Drop off household hazardous waste such as paint, oil, cleaners, pesticides, batteries, pool chemicals and obsolete electronics. Tires will also be accepted, but no more than 10 per household.

Do not take microwave ovens or large appliances. Commercial items, construction materials and garbage or yard trash will not be accepted.

Drop off items between 8 a.m. and noon at Bartram Trail High School, 7399 Longleaf Pine Parkway, in St. Johns County.

PAL to offer youth full contact football in fall

The St. Johns County Police Athletic League is starting a Junior Development Tackle Football this fall.

Youngsters ages 7 to 14 will be placed in divisions based on age, weight and prior experience. The league is full contact, tackle football with a focus on learning the fundamentals, rather than winning or losing. Everyone plays and are taught every position. Practice starts Aug. 2 and is twice a week. All 10 games will be played at Murray Middle School.

Registration fees are $100 for the first child and $80 for other children in the same family. Discounts are also available for children receiving reduced or free lunches in the school system.

The next registration is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the sheriff's Hastings field office on Main Street in the Town Hall building. Another registration will be the same time June 14 at the sheriff's field office in the southern branch of the St. Johns County Library, U.S. 1 South, just north of Florida 206.
