Nassau appraiser race faces recount

YULEE - Votes from at least one Nassau County race will be recounted Friday because of the slim margin of victory, county Supervisor of Elections Vicki Cannon said Wednesday.
Property appraiser candidate Tammy Stiles appears to have beaten Larry Williams and Michael Franklin for the Republican spot on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
She edged out Williams by 31 votes, or 0.37 percent of the votes cast.
Cannon said Florida statutes require a machine recount if the race is won by less than 0.5 percent. Manual recounts are required if a race is won by only 0.25 percent.
Another recount could be possible after the county Canvassing Board counts provisional ballots today, Cannon said.
Incumbent Margie Gandy defeated challenger Shirley Lear for the Ocean, Highway and Port Authority District 3 seat by 48 votes, or 0.44 percent.
The provisional ballots could either push Gandy over the half percent threshold or require the Elections Office to recount those votes, too, Cannon said.
