Springfield boarding house destroyed in fire

May 13, 2008

Five people escaped a fire in a Springfield boarding house early this morning. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Tom Francis said the call was received shortly before 4 a.m. More than 50 firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze. The boarding house was completely destroyed by fire, and no cause has been determined.

Two houses adjacent to the fire sustained superficial damage, but officials were unsure whether the damage was more extensive. Francis said one of the homes was vacant, and residents in the other home were alerted to the commotion and evacuated.
