"I had sex with my brother but I don't feel guilty."
HORRORS
Wow, that's disgusting
While surfing various news sites, I like to glance at the most popular stories of the day. And sometimes there are some downright weird topics at the top of the list, like this item from the UK's Times Online.
LOL - NOT
Speaking of comics . . .
For some reason, many readers write me to complain about the Times-Union's comics. "Bring back Ziggy ," they say. Or "Cancel the Family Circus already."
This is to say, once and for all, that I have no control over the comics. But I will share some other opinions I hear about the more detested comics.
- Andy Capp: " Oh great, an alcoholic husband and a fat woman who can't cook. How very unstereotypical."
- For Better or for Worse: " Not funny. Also, what's with all the repeats?"
- Cathy: " Sets back feminism by 30 days every time it runs - which is almost daily. Thanks to Cathy , we are currently living on a plane of existence that pre-dates the Earth."
HELP!
The wild, the innocent . . .
We're looking for dedicated Bruce Springsteen fans to profile in an upcoming story.
What's so remarkable about The Boss - in addition to the music and the man, of course - is the passion of his fans. We want to hear about it. But we're not interested in the general "Why I like Bruce" stuff. We want specific concert memories:
- The first time you saw him in concert.
- The most trouble you went through to see him.
- The time you introduced your children (or your parents introduced you) to Bruce.
- The weirdest stories from a concert.
- That one magical moment.
We're also looking for Springsteen concert T-shirts. Not retro shirts that you bought online last month; we're looking for the genuine article, those cheap-o shirts you paid way too much money for in the lobby of some smoky arena way back when. If you have one, let us know.
Send your stories to backtalk@jacksonville.com.

'Garfield': A Web site's live action vision
It's pretty unanimous throughout the newsroom (or at least with the folks sitting near me) that Garfield is among the lamest comics out there.
But thanks to one Web site, I changed my mind.
At LasagnaCat.com, live actors perform a smattering of (actual) Garfield strips, and the results are ridiculous. My personal favorite involves a haunted hamburger that tries to spook the "catankerous" kitty. Believe me, it's very impressive to capture the magic of a ghost-inhabited moo sandwich.
AT THE MOVIES
Shedding a little light on 'Dark Knight'
A few thoughts I had as I watched The Dark Knight Wednesday at the IMAX Theater at the World Golf Village.
- Iron Man was more fun, but Dark Knight is far more satisfying.
- Wow! Rachel Dawes sure has aged during the past three years. (Just kidding, Maggie. You know I love you. I've got the restraining order to prove it.)
- Other than a few panoramic shots of Hong Kong and Chicago . . . oops . . . Gotham, the Imax format doesn't really do much for this movie.
- Sitting in the middle of a row of 35 seats, how rude would it be for me to go to the bathroom right now? I mean, I really got to go.
- Have you heard Heath Ledger is in this movie? No, really.
- If these two clowns sitting next to me don't stop talking, I'm totally going to go all Joker on their derrieres.
