Learn about writing: Three award-winning independent author-publishers will discuss how options in the book industry have changed. The free event is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, 101 Library Blvd. Jeannine Auth , ( Emmy's Question , Morningtide Press) Frances Keiser , ( Pelican Pete series, Sagaponack Books) and Jewell Kutzer ( Memories of Mayberry , Dynamic Living Press) have each taken a non-traditional route to get their books in print. They will talk about various publishing options in their presentation, "Look Before You Leap! What You Don't Know Can Hurt You." Call (904) 285-2258.

Hunting for Hunter: University of Florida journalism professor William McKeen's new biography of his friend Hunter S. Thompson fills in the blanks in the life of the legendary and much-profiled writer. In Outlaw Journalist, The Life and Times of Hunter S. Thompson , McKeen, through thorough and patient research, reveals a more human and "normal" Thompson behind the facade of the out-of-step icon.

New and notable: The University Press of Florida recently published Tupperware Unsealed by Bob Kealing , a reporter for an Orlando television station. It details the rise of the company and the personalities that made it a success, especially Brownie Wise, the legendary marketing genius behind Tupperware and her dicey relationship with eccentric owner Earl Tupper.

Save the date: Make reservations to attend the Family Literacy Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. The free event is in the courtyard at Florida Community College at Jacksonville's North Campus, 4501 Capper Road.
