ST. AUGUSTINE - The body of a Georgia man who had anchored his boat in the Intracoastal Waterway was found Saturday floating in the water about a mile south of the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine.

A fisherman found the body about 4:20 a.m.

Officers from St. Augustine police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission retrieved the body from the water and took it to St. Augustine City Marina, police Sgt. Barry Fox said.

Fox said investigators were trying to determine the cause of death, but said it was possible the man drowned.

There was no indication foul play was involved, he said.

The man appeared to be in his mid-50s, but his name was not released because his family had not been notified of his death.

He had been alone on the boat and it wasn't clear if he had been living aboard, Fox said.

Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill said the death did not appear to be boating-related, meaning that the police department would handle the investigation.
