Police respond to three deaths, stabbing

Jacksonville homicide detectives Sunday are investigating the separate deaths of a 16-year-old and two others as well as a life threatening stabbing.

About 10:19 a.m. a bicyclist was shot while riding along King Street past the Hollybrook Apartments. Monquell Wimberly, 16, died at the scene after being struck by gunshots that may have been fired from a gray or tan four-door Mercury Grand Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria with a white sticker on the back, said homicide Sgt. Mike Perry of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier, at 6:10 a.m., police called to reports of gunfire in the 1600 block of Academy Street off Kings Road found a man dead in a front yard, Perry said. The man, identified as Patrick Stafford, 39, did not live at the residence but was believed to be visiting relatives.

Perry said police did not have any suspects in the case.

Before 8 a.m. police were called to the discovery of a body next to a pond at The Glades Apartments in the 7500 block of Southside Boulevard. Perry said no foul play was suspected in the death of the man, who lived nearby.

Around 10:30 a.m., police were pursuing a suspect in a cemetery near 45th Street and Moncrief Road folowing a stabbing. The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville with life threatening wounds.
