BUTLER Thelma Bernice Bowden Butler, 85, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Friday July 18, 2008. Bernice was born on Friday July 13, 1923 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Edgar Thomas Bowden and Thelma Constance Hartley Bowden. Bernice moved to Mandarin when she was seven years old and has lived there for most of her life. Bernice retired as an Office Manager of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1988. She was a member of the International Society of Poets and has written over 50 poems about her faith, her family, and her friends. She was also an active member of the Willing Hands Circle of the Mandarin United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by Joe B. Butler, her loving husband of 58 years and is survived by her "two boys", Joe B. Butler Jr., and Donald L. Butler of Jacksonville FL; a sister in law, Edna Williamson, of Albany GA; several nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends. The family visitation to greet friends will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday July 22 in the Mandarin United Methodist Church with pastor Curran Spottswood officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
