Clay County teachers will get a 3 percent salary increase on average under a tentative agreement reached Thursday.
The contract would also boost pay for beginning teachers to $37,800 from $35,000.
The agreement between the school district and the Clay County Education Association's bargaining unit has to be approved by union members and the School Board.
“We have had to cut in other areas in order to give this 3 percent raise, but we value our teachers and it is very important that we retain, as well as recruit qualified, talented teachers,” Superintendent David Owens said in a statement.
