Jacksonville's unemployment rate jumped higher in June, due to the normal summertime influx of new high school and college graduates into the workforce.

But when the data is seasonally adjusted to account for that trend, it shows the local jobless rate actually fell slightly last month.

The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation said today that the unemployment rate in the Jacksonville metropolitan area - consisting of Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties - rose from 5.1 percent in May to 5.6 percent in June.

However, according to the University of North Florida's Local Economic Indicators Project, when the data is seasonally adjusted, the unemployment rate for the area actually fell from 5.1 percent in May to 5.0 percent last month.
