SAVANNAH, Ga. - An attorney for Brooks E. Blitch III says the former Clinch County Superior Court judge has been arrested on federal charges.
Attorney Robert Willis says FBI agents arrested Blitch this morning and were driving him to Macon. The lawyer said Blitch called him on a cell phone after his arrest.
Blitch resigned in May to avoid judicial misconduct charges by the state after nearly 28 years in office. He had been accused of authorizing illegal payments to county officials and other non-criminal misconduct.
Willis said he did not know what charges federal authorities are bringing against Blitch. He says he doesn't believe the ex-judge committed any federal crimes.
